BBC - World Cup 2010

For the World Cup 2010 in South Africa, I was part of a team responsible for building all the front-end components for the BBC. The main focus for the site was to be clean in design, lightweight in download time and accessible to a wide an audience as possible.
The Glow JavaScript library was used (very similar to jQuery) for all the JavaScript components. Some of the components included media carousels, sliders and tooltips.
As an additional responsibility, I was responsible for managing the technical delivery of the World Cup Wallchart, a fixtures and results application developed in Flash/AS3.

The FA - England website

In preparation for the World Cup 2010, The Football Association had a requirement for a redesign and rebuild of the front-end for the England football team portal.
I was responsible for building this, and set up the implementation of the HTML, CSS and AJAX. Some of the jQuery controls used included auto-complete lists, image carousels, tabbed controls and sliders.

Ridekicks

I co-founded Ridekicks, a carpooling website that makes it easy for people to earn and save money by sharing journeys.
Ridekicks is built on the ASP.NET MVC2 framework (enhanced with MVC2 Futures), and has a SQL Server 2008 database backend. The site is running on IIS7 and implements SSL authentication. The front-end makes use of jQuery and CSS3 which degrades gracefully on older browsers. Additionally, I designed the site layout and image components in Photoshop and Illustrator.
The Facebook Graph and Twitter Authentication APIs (oAuth) have been used to simplify the signup procedure, and the payment mechanism makes use of Paypal's Adaptive Payments API.

BBC - London 2012 Olympics portal

In preparation for the Olympics, the BBC commissioned a portal landing page to provide users with 2012 related content in the countdown to 2012.
I was responsible for the front-end development, and created both the timeline and slider widgets used on the page.

Honda UK

This contract involved development work focussed mainly on the Honda UK mainsite (along with occasional work on Honda Spain), and consisted of building new functionality such as the CR-Z Twitter page to promote the summer 2010 launch of the CR-Z, site performance updates, or bug fixes. The bulk of this work was done in jQuery, classic ASP, HTML, CSS and XSLT.
Some other work involved re-designing the interface for car dealership admin system (which was based on Sharepoint) and building a Spanish equivalent of the UK 'Car Builder' (an AS3 application).

Instant weather

This is a tongue-in-cheek side-project in response to the 'Google Instant Search' craze. It uses the World Weather Online API to show weather results as you type.

Barclaycard credit card selector tool

As part of Barclays rebrand process, this site was built to allow customers to see what credit cards matched their selection criteria from a control panel which was laid out as sliders and buttons. As the user modifies their selection criteria, credit cards appear/disappear dynamically to match the new selection.
jQuery/AJAX was used to build the sliders and buttons but just in case Javascript is disabled, HTML elements are rendered in their place. The site was built with accessibility in mind, as the user can tab through the HTML and Javascript elements and it also readable by a screen reader such as JAWS.

Vodafone Music

This site was designed to be a portal for Vodafone's music related services in the UK. The server scripting language is Coldfusion whilst Flash is used for banner and cover ads whilst AJAX is used for image galleries.

Sony Twilight Widget

The Sony Twilight widget was built to promote the Sony Twilight football event in support of the new Sony EXMOR low-light camera technology.
The widget was developed in AS3 and published on the now deprecated Clearspring framework.

Becks 'Do something different'

The Becks different campaign allowed Becks customers to redeem vouchers on their bottles in return for days out across the UK.
The site was built to allow users to search for activities by postcode or genre and display the results on a google map.

Sony Reader is a new e-book reader which allows users to store upto 160 books in digital form.
This page was built within the Fatwire CMS and incorporated cover banners designed in flash.

Vodafone Music Unlimited

Vodafone Music Unlimited was designed as a portal for Vodafone's global music services. It is a multi-lingual site which allows users to view up-to-date information on their favourite bands.
The site runs off an ASP.NET backend and a flash front-end. The flash/actionscript component made use of the Box2D library.

This site represents a portal for news relating to events, organisations or people that Vodafone sponsor.
The site was built in ASP.NET whilst the data driven parts of the site run off a SQL Server 2005 database.

Barclays Premiership iGoogle gadget

This widget was designed for Barclays to help promote their sponsorship of the Premier League.
It was designed as a google gadget and was intended to be used on users iGoogle homepage.

Vodafone BlackBerry Storm homepage

To help promote BlackBerry's rival to the iPhone, this site was built on behalf of Vodafone.
The site was built in ASP.NET (C#) with Flash/Actionscript and AJAX used for the dynamic parts of the site.

Sony Ericsson Find It (Landing page)

The Find It tool is a Java Micro Edition application that was designed to help people remember the location of a tagged item. It could be used to find a tent at a festival, or even help you remember where your car is parked. The application has been nominated for the Creative Review Annual 2008.
